Gordon Henry Grossman, age 59, of Mabank, formerly of West, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at First United Church of West with Rev. Jenifer Wagley officiating. Burial will follow at Closner Cemetery near West. Mr. Grossman was born December 30, 1946 in Waco, the son of Henry Frank and Mildred Ernestine (Heitmiller) Grossman. He graduated from West High School in 1965 where he was Valedictorian of his class. He also was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Lone Star Farmers Award. He then attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In that Department, he was second in his class. He was a mechanical engineer for Texas Instruments and later with Rockwell International, where he assisted in building their communications systems and helped to design the B-1 bomber. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He loved to fish and work in his garden. He was also a life-long member of First United Church of West. Mr. Grossman is survived by his son, Captain Gregory Grossman and wife, Catherine of Newport News, Virginia; his daughter, Ginger Whitaker and husband, Jeffrey of Broomfield, Colorado; a sister, Nancy (Grossman) Vidrine of West; six grandchildren, Gregory Stauder, Geoffrey Grossman, Gillian Grossman, Tara Whitaker, Travis Whitaker and Tessa Whitaker; and two nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to Closner Cemetery Association.
