Gladys Neckar

Gladys (Schiemenz) Neckar, age 93, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at her residence. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald, with Pastor Colin McGahey officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Gladys was born November 1, 1919 in Gerald, the daughter of Will and Selma Schiemenz. She was a graduate of Waco High School. Gladys married Joseph George "Joe" Neckar Sr. in November 1939. He preceded her in death in December 1980. She worked as Cafeteria Manager for Elm Mott Elementary School for over 20 years. Gladys was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking in her spare time. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought the most joy to her life. Gladys is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph George Neckar Jr.; a daughter, Mary Ellen Lillie; a brother, Arthur Schiemenz; and two sisters, Ellen Hurt and Dorothy Chapman. Survivors include two daughters, Rosanne Middleton of Austin and Linda Andrews of Waco; seven grandchildren, Cyndie Nielsen, Ann Pharr, Anneliese Gifford, Jennifer Middleton, Jill McGahey, Andrea Lillie and Sarah Jaramillo; eleven great grandchildren, Megan, Kayla, Michael, Travis, Abby, Caleb, Ray, Annalise, Madison, Payton and Mary Ellen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
