Gladys Mendiola

Gladys S. Mendiola, age 65, of Gholson, formerly of Houston, was received into the arms of the Lord on Saturday evening, September 16, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Dr. Richard Booker officiating. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Gladys was born March 13, 1952 in Bellville, Texas, the daughter of the late Joe and Ida (Eckhoff) Sklar. She graduated from Reagan High School in 1970. Gladys married the love of her life, Armando Mendiola, on March 21, 1970 in Houston. Together, they raised three children, built two family businesses, and were recognized as pillars in their church and neighborhood. Gladys' life goal was to be a wife and mother, and she became a role model as both. Many family and friends (including all three of her children) have precious memories of wedding, birthday and graduation cakes made by her. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite days of the year, and she loved decorating and preparing a feast for family and friends. Gladys worked alongside her husband for over 25 years as co-owner of Mendiola Data Services until their retirement in 2015. She was a member of the North Park Baptist Church in Humble. Survivors include beloved husband of 47 years, Armando Mendiola; her children, Mike Mendiola and wife Dianne of West, Brandon Mendiola and wife Adriana of San Marcos, CA, and Alisa Dabney and husband Aaron of Waco; a sister, Maxine Sklar; grandchildren, Megan Mendiola, Matthew Mendiola, Ezra Mendiola, Liam Mendiola and Emri Mendiola; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers will be David Mendiola, Dave Adkins, Chris DeLao, Matthew Mendiola, John Bailey, and Mario Mendiola. Honorary pallbearers will be Dicky Eckhoff and Leon Eckhoff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Texas Right to Life (Education & Outreach) or to the charity of your choice.
