Gertrude Machac

Gertrude "Gal" Machac, age 86, of Ross, passed away early Thursday afternoon, July 2, 2009 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. The family will receive visitors from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Machac was born on December 28, 1922 near Tours, the daughter of Joe and Margaret (Uptmore) Schroeder. She attended Tours school and on October 1, 1940, she was united in marriage to Henry J. Machac Sr. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1989. Gertrude was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family dairy in Ross. She enjoyed cooking, baking kolaches, sewing, making homemade noodle soup, and keeping her home very neat and clean. A son, Henry Machac Jr., three brothers; and one sister, also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Bill Machac and wife Barbara of Bremond and Lawrence Machac and wife Donna of Ross; one daughter, Betty Pavelka and husband Raymond of Ross; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; her dog, Nancy; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
