Georgia Nell Pass

January 24, 1930 — March 10, 2014

Georgia Nell (Archer) Pass, age 84, of China Spring, passed away late Monday night, March 10, 2014 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in China Spring, with Rev. Mike Copeland officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until service time at the church. Georgia Nell was born January 24, 1930 in Mexia, the daughter of George W. and Zella B. (Roberts) Archer. She was five years old when the family moved to her Grandma West's farm near Prairie Hill. She attended grade school in Kirk until the fifth grade when she transferred to the Prairie Hill School. She shared many fond memories of school and living on the farm, and was especially fond of the times she rode to school with her father on his horse when it rained and was too muddy to walk. Nell also shared fond memories of playing in her father's grocery store. On May 24, 1952 she was united in marriage to Hulon A. Pass in Mart. A friend had invited him to the First Baptist Church service where she was singing in the choir. He had come for a blind date with someone else, but she caught his eye instead, and he came back the next week to meet her at a church picnic. Soon after their marriage, she survived the Waco Tornado of 1953. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Waco, Belton and Galveston before returning to the Waco area. In 1968, she finished her degree at Baylor University and they moved their family to China Spring where they lived for 46 years. Nell began her career teaching first and second grades at China Spring Elementary School, the later teaching Distributive Education at China Spring High School. She rounded out her career as high school librarian before retiring after 34 years of service. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of China Spring. She also served on the Bold Springs Cemetery Association as Secretary and was a member of the American Legion Post #121 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved quilting, sewing and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, J. W. Archer. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Hulon A. Pass of China Spring; a son, Dr. Hulon H. Pass and wife Diane of Ft. Stockton; two daughters, Kimberly Pass and husband Bill Pattarozzi of Lott and Kelly McFadden and husband Russ of Dallas; a brother, Donald Archer and wife Billye; two sisters, Wanda Beavers and husband Jeff and Ouida Holland; 7 grandchildren, Dr. Joshua Pass, Jessica Haskell and husband Richard, Jonathan Wimberly, Stephanie King, Jared McFadden, Cayla McFadden and Sam McFadden; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Youth Ministry of the First Baptist Church of China Spring or to Providence Hospice. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Providence Hospice for their wonderful care.
