Georgia (Barton) Spruell, age 85, of West, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009 at Providence Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Spruell was born on May 9, 1923 near West, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Hutyra) Barton. She attended school in West. On February 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Byron Weldon Spruell in West. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1970. Georgia was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She also loved gardening, playing bingo, and listening to country and Czech music. She also worked as a secretary for Ray's Electric and Plumbing in West for several years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Barton Sr., and two sisters, Rudy Marak and Willie Mae Schuetz. Survivors include one son Barry Spruell and wife Cindy of Flower Mound; one daughter, Linda Urban and husband Joseph of West; five grandchildren, Jackie Riemenschneider, Jessica Urban, Sarah Urban, Lindsay Urban, James Gordy and Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Jenna and Braden; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Randy Barton, Craig Barton, Jason Barton, James Webre, Jerry Girard and Don Riemenschnieder. Memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association or to West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
