Georgia Ann Cocek

July 23, 1912 — July 31, 2006

Georgia Ann Cocek, age 94 of West formerly of Bishop, Texas, passed away Monday morning in West Rest Haven. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2006 at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West; with Father Ed Karasek, as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mrs. Cocek was born July 23, 1912 in West, Texas to Rudolph and Ludmilla Smajstrla Nemecek and was the fourth of six children born to this union. She graduated from St. Mary's School in West and also West High School in 1931. She married Fred F. Cocek Sr. on June 23, 1935 and he preceded her in death on May 4, 1964. She also was preceded in death by a son, Freddy Cocek Jr. in 2002 and three sisters, Hattie Piehl, Mamie Urbanovsky and Rudie Grimm. Mrs. Cocek lived in Bishop, Texas for many years, where she was a telephone switchboard operator. In June 2005 she became a resident of West Rest Haven in West, Texas. She loved to quilt and cook and was an excellent seamstress and also made the most delicious kolaches and shared them with her family and friends. For many years she attended Mass and prayed the Rosary daily. Mrs. Cocek was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Bishop, Texas and after moving to West became a member of St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West. Survivors include a daughter Joyce Tynes and husband Dalton of Waco, a son Anthony Cocek and wife Bobbie of Canyon Lake, Texas, a daughter-in-law, Nettie Cocek of Bishop; two brothers, Alfred Nemecek and wife Virginia of Austin and Joseph (Pete) Nemecek of Corpus Christi, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Active Pallbearers are William Tynes, Phillip Tynes, Blake Tynes, Carl London, Mike Goldsmith and Brad McCafferty. Kotch Funeral Home of West is in charge of arrangements.
