George Mikuda, age 89, of West, formerly of Mesquite, passed away early Monday afternoon, December 25, 2023 at West Rest Haven in West.
A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. George will lie-in-state Friday from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. at Aderhold Funeral Home in West.
George was born March 22, 1934 in Mt. Calm, the son of Charlie and Mary (Mynar) Mikuda. He attended school in Penelope. George proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 before being honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist 3rd Class. On June 22, 1957 he was united in marriage to Jeannie Lucian in Penelope. Jeannie preceded him in death on September 4, 2021. George was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and a former member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas. He worked for Affiliated Foods, Julius Schepps Wholesale Liquors in Dallas, and for Ben E. Keith in Dallas prior to retiring in 1992. After his retirement, he worked selling coupons at the State Fair of Texas for 25 years. George enjoyed fishing, dancing, listening to his Czech music, playing dominoes, and gambling at Choctaw. He loved spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
George is also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn Stuckly.
Survivors include his children, Mary Lou Mynar and husband George of West, Edward Mikuda and wife Lana of Mesquite, and Donna Mikuda of Waco; his grandchildren, Matthew Mikuda, Crystal Havel and husband Patrick, Julie Pricer and husband Hap, and Amanda Grones; his great grandchildren, Mallory Sinkule, Aiden Howard, Caleb Grones, and Devin Grones; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Matthew Mikuda, Bernard Hlavaty Jr., Glenn Hennig, Elton Stuckly, Patrick Havel, and Hap Pricer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Association.
