George E. Oden

George E. Oden, age 91, of Golinda, formerly of West, passed away late Thursday morning, April 28, 2016 at Providence Hospital in Waco. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Morgan Woodard officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. George was born October 5, 1924 in Itasca, the son of William L. and Viola (Sadlin) Oden. He attended schools near the Houston area. George served his country with the United States Army during World War II. On August 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Doris Paul in West. Doris preceded him in death on June 11, 2005. On April 22, 2006, he was united in marriage to Barber "Sue" Paul in Golinda. George worked for Fleetwood Enterprises in Waco for many years before retiring in 1974. He also worked for the Zimmerman Sign Company in Dallas. He was a member of the Golinda Baptist Church. George was also a member of the American Legion Post #145 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Post #3 in Waco. He enjoyed camping, traveling and especially loved visiting and talking with family and friends. George is also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elzy Oden, Andrew Oden, Pete Oden, C. V. Oden and John Oden; and sisters, Lottie McEachern, Anettia Wiggins, Rnell Herring and Eula Crouch. Survivors include his wife, Sue Oden of Golinda; sons, Ernest Oden, David Oden and Randy Oden and wife Cindy; step daughters, Susan Chambers and husband Marvin and Donna Katz and husband Steve; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are William Claridy, Eddie Guerro, Travis Skinner, Jerry Alsip, Josh Jones and Taylor Oden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
