George E. Bailey, Jr., age 90, of Aquilla, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, March 26, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple. A rosary will be recited and Funeral Services held 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Rev. Ouseph Thekkumthala and Deacon Denver Crawley officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. George was born June 5, 1922 in Milam County, the son of George E. Bailey Sr. and Maggie Beatrice (Vaughan) Bailey. He grew up in Aquilla where he attended school. George served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. On December 28, 1948 he was united in marriage to Josephine Schafer in Glen Ullin, ND. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2010. George was a farmer at heart and a carpenter by trade most of his life, and he enjoyed gardening and growing flowers whenever he found time. He also worked in many locations for the Brown & Root Construction Company. George had many friends and family members that he cherished over the years and was loved by many. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. George is also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene, Joseph, Edward, Emmett, Ellis and Sidney; and a sister, Ezlee Williams. Survivors include six children, Dennis Bailey, Donald Bailey, Deborah Bailey, Donna Bailey, Diana Bailey and Dale Bailey; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Anthony Bailey, Joshua Bailey, Aaron Bailey, Dale Bailey, Donald Bailey and Dennis Bailey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott.
