George C. Mccartney

George C "Curty" McCartney, age 61, of Gholson, passed away Friday, March 18, 2005 in Waco. Graveisde services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Gholson Cemetery, with Rev. Bruce Carpenter officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. McCartney was born September 27, 1943 in Waco, the son of Raymond and Mary (Burmingham) McCartney. He attended schools in Gholson and West. He married Sybil on December 2, 1961 in Riesel. Curty was an independent truck driver. He enjoyed camping, riding around on his golf cart, and loved spending time with family, especially his grandkids. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson. His father, Raymond; a brother, Donald Ray "Donnie" McCartney; and a sister, Brenda Mae Glenn Patterson; all preceded him in death. Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Sybil McCartney; his mother, Mary E. McCartney of Waco; a son, Allen McCartney and his wife Stacy of Gholson; a daughter, Liz Rich and her husband Jimmy of Gholson; four grandkids, David McCartney, Alysha McCartney, Holli McDow and her husband Tim, and Jason Rich; a great grandson, Alex McDow; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Pallbearers are Jimmy Rich, Delton Glenn, Billy Kilgo, Chris Pope, Gary Horton, and Gene Dorris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillcrest Community Hospice.
