Gene Huntley, age 63, of Palestine, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at his residence. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Closner Cemetery near West, with Rev. Terry McElrath officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Gene was born September 27, 1944 in Ft. Worth, the son of Eugene W. and Ruby Elaine (Briant) Huntley. He attended schools in Japan and Lacy Lakeview before graduating from Connally High School in 1963. He then attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Gene went to work for the Dover Oil Company in Houston as a salesman for 25 years before retiring in 1985. He then went to work for the Texas Department of Corrections in Palestine. His parents precede him in death. Survivors include a son, Bobby Huntley and wife Linda of Georgetown; two sisters, Kitty Davidson and husband Travis of West and Maureen Ballard and husband Brad of Robinson; three grandchildren; his best friend, Ronnie Holub of Waco; three nephews; and many other friends and co-workers.
