Gary R. Harris

Gary R. Harris, age 79, of West, passed away late Monday evening, July 28, 2014 at his residence. Memorial visitation will be held Thursday August 7, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Gary was born February 7, 1935 in West, the son of Bill Harris and Pauline Saylor. He attended school in West. On December 21, 1956 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Stobbe in Waco. As a young man, he worked for State National Bank in Waco as a cashier and later worked as a drug store clerk. Gary also worked several years for Burlington Mills. He then began his career was with Martin Linen Company, where he was a Sales Manager and received awards as top salesman in Texas for three years. Gary ended up traveling the United States for Martin Linen for 40 years. He also enjoyed tending to his cattle and horse ranches for over 50 years. Gary loved his family and friends, and greatly enjoyed taking fishing and hunting trips to Colorado, where he and his wife have a cabin in the mountains. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Peggy Harris; his sister, Sandra Bleak; and his grandson, Joshua Zarecor. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Carolyn Harris of West; daughters, Michelle Glatter and husband Raymond, and Rebecca Young and husband Rodney, all of West; grandchildren, Dillan Lambright, Shanan Zarecor, Cassy Young, and Shawn Young and wife Amber; great grandchildren, Chloe Zarecor, Katie Young, McKayla Young, Jayden Lambright and Cheyenne Zarecor; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund.
