Gary Lathern, age 72, of White Bluff, formerly of West, passed away Monday afternoon, June 7, 2021 at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Gary was born June 4, 1949 in Waco, the son of Cecil and Mary Lee (King) Lathern. He was a graduate of Robinson High School and Baylor University. Gary spent many years working as an auditor for the State Comptroller's Office in Waco. On December 31, 1998, he was united in marriage to Carla Roznos in West. Carla preceded him in death on April 6, 2004. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Gary was also a member of West Knights of Columbus Council #2305, Baylor Alumni Association, the Baylor Bear Foundation and served in the Texas National Guard. He enjoyed Baylor football, golfing, and especially spending time with his family. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Debbie Drummond, and a nephew, Tracy Drummond. Survivors include his children, Jeff Lathern and wife Stacie of McGregor, and Kelly Lathern and fiancé Hayden Holecek of West; step-children, Keaton Matus and Carley Matus; grandchildren, Hailey Buice and fiancé Bradley Carrier, Grant Lathern, Pearson Lathern, Connor Lathern, and Brailey Holecek; great grandchildren, Camrie, Harlow, and McCrae on the way; sister, Pat Gummelt and husband Ed; brothers, Jay Lathern and wife MaryAnn, and Steve Lathern and wife Barbara; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Larry Haigood, Larry Groppel, Darrell Bledsoe, Gary Thompson, Ronnie Perry, Robert Woods, Michael McCommon, and Allen Mitcham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Foundation. Gary's children would like to extend an acknowledgement of appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Ascension Providence and their hospice team as they cared for their father so greatly.
