Garnet Ray Waggoner, age 71, of West, passed away late Sunday evening, November 27 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Prairie Grove Cemetery near Aquilla, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday at the funeral home. Garnet was born on April 1, 1934 in Hamlin, the son of Melvin and Ruby (Willis) Waggoner. He attended school in Hamlin and on December 29, 1954 married Frances LaFern Lowe in Stamford. He was a ranch foreman in Hamlin and Marquez for several years before moving to central Texas where he worked for West Chemical and Fertilizer for over 20 years until his retirement in 1999. Garnet enjoyed hunting, fishing, studying history, and ranching. He also had a special love for dogs. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Aquilla. His parents and a grandson, Justin Ryno, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, LaFern Waggoner of West; a son, Paul Waggoner and wife Diana of Marquez; two daughters, Pamela Ryno and husband Randy and Penny Sitton and husband Dawayne all of West; a sister, Faye Miller and husband Clarence of Hamlin; six grandchildren, Julie Ryno, Kellie Waggoner, Nathan Waggoner, Zachary Robinson, Michael Sitton, and Kyle Sitton; two great-granddaughters, Kelsia and Lauryn Swafford; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers will be Randy Ryno, Dawayne Sitton, John Grange, Zachary Robinson, Michael Sitton, and Kyle Sitton. Memorials may be made to West Rest Haven Memorial Fund, Latham Springs Baptist Encampment, or West Senior Lunch Program.
