Gail Bradburry Matus

February 19, 1959 — December 3, 2011

Gail Bradburry Matus, age 52, of West, was taken peacefully to heaven early Saturday morning, December 3, 2011 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Gail was born February 19, 1959 in Bossier City, Louisiana to Ivan Curtis and Florence (Kirkpatrick) Bradburry. She was brought home to big sister, Cathy then later was joined by baby sister, Sherry and her pride and joy little brother, Curtis Richard. Her daddy was in the USAF so the family moved from Bossier City on to El Paso, then to Abilene, followed by Warner Robbins, Georgia, Blair, Oklahoma and finally upon Daddy's retirement settled back to the family home state of Texas. Gail graduated from Connally High School in 1977. The happiest times of her life was raising her daughters, Heather and Karry. As a Mom, Gail was involved in the girl's school activities as head room mother and she was the very best at making birthdays and holidays the most special times for her family. As the years past, she watched her little girls mature to fine young ladies who would ultimately give Gail the greatest gifts of all, her grandchildren. Gail met and married Jim Matus in 2002. Jim stepped into the role of husband and father, where he gave unselfishly of his love and caring spirit. Gail was Jim's Princess. He loved and cared for her unconditionally. The more children, grandchildren and family around Gail, the better she thrived. Her family enjoyed impromptu family reunions that would come together with just a couple of phone calls. The family as a whole thrived on the fun loving spirit of Gail and her siblings; if you ever had the privilege of spending time with them you felt the love and support of the entire group. The very meaning of her life was her family and friends. Gail worked for the McLennan County Court services for 17 years, and there too, she gave of her caring spirit to each and every case that crossed her desk. Each case she filed was not just a job to her, those individuals that were in need and hurting were carried in Gail's heart and never forgotten. At the courthouse, Gail enjoyed her extended family of co-workers. There would never be a baby shower, birthday or any other special event that she would not be involved in to make that person feel special and loved. She was a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #54 and SOKOL West. Gail was Mrs. Claus for several years. She enjoyed photography, yard work, making jewelry, but most of all, she loved being Nanny and MiMi. Gail is preceded in death by her grandparents, Calvin Richard Bradburry, Edna Miller, and Dee and Bertha Kirkpatrick. Gail is survived by her husband of 10 years, Jimmy Matus of West; two daughters, Heather Roberson and Derek Barnes of Bosqueville and Karry Dornak and husband Jeff of Spring; a step-son, Dustin Matus of West; a step-daughter, Jennifer Kalina and fianc Brian Walker of Lorena; four grandchildren, Hailey, Alana, Hanna, and Ava; a grandson on the way, Aaden; her parents, Ivan Curtis and Florence Bradburry of Elm Mott; her parents-in-law, Raymond and Lill Matus; two sisters, Cathy Bradburry and Alvin Moravec and Sherry Matus and husband Ben, all of West; a brother, Curtis Richard "C.R." Bradburry and Bruce Harrison of China Spring; a brother-in-law, Thomas Matus and wife Ruth Ann of Chalk Bluff; sisters-in-law, Kathy Matus and Cindy Matus, both of West; six nephews, Chris Edwards, Clint Burrow, Keith Hutyra, Clayton Burrow, Garratt Matus, and Brannon Matus; five nieces, Christy Edwards, Kelly Hutyra, Whitney Dudik, Emily Matus, and Taylor Matus; her four-legged housemates, Maddison, Abby, and Belle; and many other close relatives and friends.
