Fred R. Mccartney

Fred R. McCartney, age 78, of Gholson, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 6, 2015 at his residence. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Gholson Cemetery, with Chaplain Grady Gladden officiating. Masonic Graveside Rites will follow conducted by the West Masonic Lodge. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Fred was born August 4, 1937 in Dallas, the son of the late John and Wilma (Wilkins) McCartney. He served his country with the United States Army for two years. In July of 1964, he was united in marriage to Barbara A. Branch in Waco. Barbara preceded him in death on June 23, 1995. Fred worked for General Tire and Rubber Company over 30 years, retiring in 1987 then became a truck driver for Patrick Industry for 14 years, retiring in 2001. Fred was also a farmer. He enjoyed fishing, Drinking a cold beer, chewing tobacco and driving his tractors and his airboat. He was also a great softball and baseball pitcher. Fred was nicknamed "Porky" because he loved to eat a good meal. Survivors include his children, Kathy McCartney and Larry Galloway and wife Debby, all of Gholson; his brother, Clinton McCartney and wife Janet; his grandsons, Zach Galloway and Sam Galloway; his great grandchildren, Carlin and Abby Galloway; his grand dog, Dash; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Zach Galloway, Sam Galloway, Randy Spence, Dylan Karl, Robby Guinn and Jason McCartney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gholson Volunteer Fire Department.
