Frankye Mae Mikeska, age 93, of Abbott, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, July 27, 2023 at her daughter's home in West.
A rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, followed by visitation until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott.
Frankye Mae was born August 26, 1929 in Abbott, the daughter of Frank and Albina (Zaicek) Kucera. She attended the old Alligator School, Griffin School, Penelope School, Scott School, Malone School, and was a 1947 graduate of Hubbard High School. On October 20, 1948 she was united in marriage to George Mikeska in West. George preceded her in death on January 19, 2013. Frankye Mae was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 and SPJST Lodge #54, both in West. Frankye Mae went to nursing school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse, receiving her training at several hospitals and schools in the Houston area including M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She worked for many years at Grant Buie Hospital and Hill Regional Hospital as a LVN, Physical Therapist and Director of Respiratory Therapy, until her retirement. Frankye Mae enjoyed cooking, baking, listening to Czech music, dancing, gardening, being outdoors, and getting together with many of her relatives and friends to talk about the good old days. Her Friday adventure was to get her hair done by Tracy, eating at Czech American followed by visiting and shopping at Village Shoppe, Old Corner Antique Store and getting kolaches from Oak Street Bakery and Slovacek's. She dearly loved her family, especially taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending all of their school functions and athletic competitions.
Frankye Mae is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rosalie Mikeska; an infant son; great grandson, Lance Machac; brothers, Wilson Kucera and Nick Kucera; and sisters, Estelle Foitek, Polly Volcik, Delma Kaska, and Betty Kaska.
Survivors include her daughters, Jane Kapavik and husband Henry of West and Joyce Putnam and husband Mike of Arlington; her grandchildren, Becky Machac and husband Marc, Sharon Hlavenka and husband Jon, Paula Kapavik and Keith Weir, and John Kapavik and wife Jessica; her great grandchildren, Lane Machac and Brailey Sembera, Devin Hlavenka and wife Sadie, Raven Sullins and husband Mason, Hannah Hlavenka, Ashlyn Kapavik, Ryan, Dylan, and Brayden, and Jones and June Kapavik; great great grandchildren, Kyndall, Kase and Annie; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are John Kapavik, Lane Machac, Devin Hlavenka, Ryan Bailey, Harry Volcik. Mitchell Kucera, David Kucera, and Albert Srubar. Honorary pallbearers are Marc Machac, Jon Hlavenka, Keith Weir, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Daughters Court #829.
