Frank L. Armstrong, age 85, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, July 5, 2009 at West Rest Haven in West. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Graveside services will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Frank was born October 11, 1923 in Paris, Texas, the son of Dr. James Edward and Mattie O. (Hagood) Armstrong. He graduated from Paris High School in 1941 and from Baylor University in 1952. Frank served his country with the United States Navy, having been honorably discharged in March of 1950. On June 13, 1963 he was united in marriage to Patsy Ruth Farris in West. Frank served as Principal of West Elementary School for 28 years before retiring on May 6, 1984. He was also the band director for West schools for a short time. He was a member of First Baptist Church of West, where he sang in the church choir. Frank was also member of West Masonic Lodge #475, American Legion Post #478, West Kiwanis Club, and was also a Shriner, where he played in the band for many years. Frank enjoyed playing golf, traveling, playing dominoes, and listening to big band music. His parents, three brother, and one sister preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Patsy Ruth Armstrong of West; two daughters, Janice Fulp and husband Larry of Burleson, and Lisa Pareya of Russellville, AR; four grandchildren, Denise Contella and husband Philip, Mark Fulp, Julie Pareya and Jessica Pareya; three great grandchildren, Brittney Viers, Kayla Viers and Hayden Fulp; two sisters-in-law, Jane Crutcher and husband Jim and Joy Farris; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children in Houston or to First Baptist Church of West.
