Frances Lillian Slovak, age 99, of Waco, passed away early Sunday evening, May 15, 2011 at her residence. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with the Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. Mrs. Slovak was born on March 31, 1912 in Hill County near Abbott, the daughter of Vincent and Francis (Skopia) Beseda. She attended the old Brooken community school. On November 25, 1933 she was united in marriage to Edward Joseph "E.J." Slovak in West. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1969. They lived in Brooken until December of 1940 at which time they moved to the community of Mayfield, north of Hillsboro. Frances lived there until May of 2008 at which time she moved to Waco to live with her son. Frances worked on the family farm for over 20 years. She also worked as a nurse's aide at Hillsboro Medical Center for several years during the 1960's. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her family. Frances was a former member of Our Lady of Mercy in Hillsboro and was currently a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. She was also a member of the K.J.Z.T. Society, R.V.O.S. Lodge in Cottonwood and Our Lady of Mercy Altar Society. Francis is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Billy G. Slovak; a daughter, Janice Marie (Slovak) Richardson; three brothers, John Beseda, Frank Beseda and Louie Beseda; and three sisters, Julie Girard, Gracie Pibil, and Mary Beseda. Survivors include two sons, Henry E. Slovak and wife Betty Jane of Waco and James L. Slovak and wife Malvina of Victoria; 10 grandchildren, Julie Slovak, David Slovak and wife Tessa, Donnie Slovak and wife Lynn, Lorri Bolfing and husband Mark, Danny Slovak, Karen Drewek and husband Tim, Susan Smith and husband Van, Mike Slovak, Debbie Stone, and Jennifer Slovak; 9 great grandchildren; her dog, Bud; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are David Slovak, Donnie Slovak, Danny Slovak, Mark Bolfing, Mike Slovak, and Zak Slovak. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Texas Home Health Care Hospice for their love and compassion.
