Fern Allred, age 79, of Axtell, went to be with her Lord late Sunday evening, February 6, 2022 at her residence. Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 12, 2022, at the Greater Waco Baptist Church in Waco, with Associate Pastor Nehemiah Torberson and Brother Austin LeBeuf officiating. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service. The service may be viewed at greaterwaco.org/livestream. Fern was born February 11, 1942 in Christie, Oklahoma to the late Buford T. and Ruth (Trickett) Hern. On April 6, 1963 she was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Allred from Riesel. They lived on the east coast when Kenneth was serving in the United States Navy. He was her most loyal friend and advocate, taking care of her mother, Ruth Hern until the Lord took her home. She graduated from LaVega High School in 1960 and attended Durham's Business College. In 1971, Fern attended McLennan Community College and received her Associate Degree in Nursing. In 1978, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas in Arlington. She worked at several area hospitals and was very devoted to her job and her patients. Fern was a long time member of the Greater Waco Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and enjoyed every minute. Each day of the week she studied so that her class knew that what she delivered them was the gospel. She was the most gracious, kind, and loving person anyone could ever know. Fern put everyone's burdens on her shoulders, but never wanted to burden anyone about her own. She truly loved the Lord. Survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Kenneth Allred of Axtell; her beloved foster daughter, Pammie Busby of Axtell; granddaughter, Dakota "Ko-Ko"; brothers, Kenneth Hern and wife Page, Harold Hern and wife Sandy, Larry Hern, and Luther Hern and wife Jackie; her little sister, Linda Gosselin, who was always ready to take up for her; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her brothers and sister meant the world to her. Family was very important, her parents always said to love one another and that we would all rejoice together in Heaven. Fern was very grateful for her devoted friend, Geneva Davis, of over 40 years. Thank you to all the special people with Waco Providence Home Care. In lieu of flowers, please send any memorial gifts to the Pat Adams Scholarship Fund or the Missions Fund at the Greater Waco Baptist Church.
