Evelyn (Pinter) Matula, age 88, of West passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2018 at St. Catherines Center in Waco, surrounded by her loving family. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2018, at St. Marys Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Darrell Kostiha as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery near West. Evelyn was born July 1, 1929 on her family farm near Abbott, the daughter of Albert & Stella (Hubik) Pinter. She began her education in the country at Brooken School near Abbott and in the second grade transferred to Abbott schools where she remained until graduation. Evelyn learned to play the piano and organ from Willie Nelsons grandmother and served as organist at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott during her high school years. Graduating from Abbott High with honors in May of 1947, Evelyn contemplated entering nursing school. But she followed her heart instead and married the love of her life, Fred Matula, on August 26, 1947. After almost 63 years of sharing their lives together, Fred preceded her in death on March 16, 2010. Evelyn and Fred built their first home together in West, but their love of the country lured them to buy their first farm in the Cottonwood community in 1952. They worked side by side, farming and ranching for the next 58 years. Evelyn was an avid gardener, expert seamstress and loved to crochet. She also enjoyed cooking and no one ever left her house hungry. In fact, they usually had "goodies" to go. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her four children, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She had a special connection with each of them and there was an extra sparkle in her eyes when they would come to visit. She always loved spoiling the grandchildren and great grandchildren with special treats, soda, and extra hugs and kisses. She was a true example of deep and loyal devotion to family and her spirit will live on in all the lives she has touched. Evelyn was a faithful member of St Marys Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and a member of St. Anns Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 of West and SPJST Lodge #66. She enjoyed praying the rosary daily and delighted in collecting rosaries from around the world. Evelyn is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alphonse Pinter, Bill Pinter, and Pat Pinter; nephews, Paul Pinter, Neal Pinter and Jimmy Pinter; and niece, Jeannie Pinter Pope. Survivors include a son, Larry Matula and wife Mitzi of Elm Mott, daughters: Nancy Polasek and husband Gary, Linda Beseda and husband John and Mary Ann Johnson, all of West; grandchildren, Christopher Matula and wife Katie, Dustin Matula, Laura Polasek Barretto and husband Alex, Sarah Polasek Boyea and husband Luke, John Beseda II, Becky Beseda Lane and husband Chris, Katie Johnson, Leah Johnson, and David Johnson; great grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas and Ella Barretto and Chloe and Caleb Boyea; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends at St. Elizabeths Assisted Living Center where she resided her last four years. Active pallbearers are grandsons: Christopher Matula, Dustin Matula, John Beseda II, David Johnson, Alex Barretto, Luke Boyea and Chris Lane. Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters and great grandchildren: Laura, Jacob, Lucas and Ella Barretto, Sarah, Chloe and Caleb Boyea, Becky Lane, Katie and Leah Johnson, and Katie Matula. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Providence Foundation for Sister Sini Paul to continue her loving ministry to the residents at Providence Park, to the Junior Catholic Daughters Court #829 of West for their Adopted Grandparent Program, or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeths Assisted Living for their unwavering care for over four years, her visiting angel Donna for her loving care and special friendship, and Dr. Timothy Schiller for his years of genuine care and concern.
