Evelyn Marie (Marcon) Chudej, age 95, of West, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 21, 2023 at West Rest Haven in West.
A rosary will be recited 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Evelyn was born October 2, 1927 in Taylor, the daughter of John and Louise (Jaska) Marcon. She was a 1945 graduate of St Mary's Catholic School in Taylor. On May 5, 1947 she was united in marriage to Edwin Chudej in West. Edwin preceded her in death on June 16, 1985. Evelyn was a very dedicated member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and worked at many parish activities. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, St. Anne's Altar Society (where she served as past president), KJZT St. Ludmila Society #11, St. Mary's PTC Choir, St. Cecilia's Choir, the National Council of Catholic Women, and the 50-50 Club. Evelyn was a seamstress for Lorch Manufacturing and Wolf Manufacturing, both in West, for a total of 27 years. She then worked for West Elementary School before retiring in 1988. Evelyn was an excellent seamstress and master quilter. She enjoyed baking kolaches, tending to her flowers, working puzzles, traveling (especially to the Czech Republic), and playing bingo and dominoes. She typically had a cold diet Dr. Pepper in hand while spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Evelyn also adored her three beloved dachshunds, Tippy, Max, and Spunky.
Evelyn is also preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Eddie Chudej and Richard Chudej; a great-grandson, Turner Uptmor; and brothers, John Marcon and Louis Marcon.
Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn Karcher and husband David; her grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Matus, Meredith Karcher, Christopher and Denicia Karcher, Kim and Adrian Wernet, Scott Chudej, and Dr. Eric and Kristi Chudej; great grandchildren, Tanner, Tate, Emerson, Lauren, Madison, Miles, Clay, Chloe, and Kyle; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Brian Matus, Dr. Eric Chudej, Scott Chudej, Christopher Karcher, Tanner Uptmor, and Tate Uptmor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Association or St. Anne's Altar Society.
