Eugene R. Snapka, age 68, of Waco, passed away early Friday morning, June 24, 2016 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by Sister Martha Ann Snapka, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Vincent Romuald, SRC as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Eugene was born October 3, 1947 in Waco, the son of Ernest H. and Anna Mae (Bezdek) Snapka. He was a 1966 graduate of Abbott High School and later attended Hill Jr. College. He served his country with the Unites States Navy during the Vietnam War as an electrician's mate aboard the USS Mahan-DLG11 guided missile destroyer. He received Vietnam Service and Campaign medals. Eugene received an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering from TSTI. He worked as a Senior Utility Designer for Texas Power & Light in Waco, later known as TXU for 31 years before retiring in 2003. Eugene was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco. He was also a member of the VFW Post #4819, American Legion Post #478, and KJT Society #107. Eugene enjoyed playing pool, dominoes, cooking, watching old Western television shows and supporting Texas Aggie sporting events. He especially loved working with wood and making furniture. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Snapka. Survivors include a brother, Ernie Snapka of Mt. Vernon; sisters, Toni Snapka of West, Kathleen Pustejovsky and husband Eugene of Abbott and Carolyn Harlow and husband Steve of Rockwall; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Pokluda and husband Dan of West; 16 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Michael Snapka, Robert Snapka, Dale Snapka, Ron Snapka, Gerald Snapka, Paul Pustejovsky, Steve Pustejovsky and Gary Pustejovsky. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Pustejovsky, Larry Snapka, Bill Kral, Rick & Cathy Vrba and Nancy Hykel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Wish List or Abbott Ex-Students Scholarship Fund.
