Eugene L. Kubala, age 85, of Hillsboro, passed away late Friday evening, March 30, 2007 at Jeffrey Place Healthcare in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Eugene was born on August 17, 1921 in the West area, the son of Will and Emily (Hutyra) Kubala. He attended Cottonwood school and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. On October 18, 1948 he was united in marriage to Sophie (Pustejovsky) Kubala. He moved to the Chat area where he farmed his entire life, before retiring in 1986. Eugene enjoyed hard work. He served on the Abbott School Board, was Director of Chat Water Supply, and Director of Abbott Gin. He was a member of KJT Society #107 in Abbott and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. His parents, one sister, Bessie Pustejovsky and two brothers, Willie Kubala and Eddie Kubala all preceded him in death. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Sophie Kubala of Hillsboro; two sons, Charles Kubala and his wife Eileen of Waco and Richard Kubala and his wife Kim of Lancaster; one daughter, Dolores Kubala of Irving; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Building Fund or to Providence Hospice.
