Esther Anna Malina

Esther Anna Malina, age 99, of West, passed away late Monday evening, December 29, 2014 at Homestead Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Private burial will follow at West Brethren Cemetery. Esther was born February 20, 1915 in McLennan County near Cottonwood, the daughter of John and Katherine (Vochoska) Krizan. She attended schools in Cottonwood. On February 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to Fred Malina in Temple. Fred preceded her in death on July 17, 1994. Esther was a homemaker and helped her husband on their farm. They also owned an almond and apricot orchard which they harvested together. She was a member of the West Brethren Church and SPJST Lodge #6. Esther enjoyed farming, gardening and quilting. She was also a very active former resident of West Rest Haven, where she was crowned Miss Westfest. Esther is also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson Michael Malina; a daughter-in-law, Jerie Malina; two sisters, Adelle Royal and Lydia Dobecka; a niece, Therese Dobecka; and a nephew, William Royal. Survivors include a son, Johnny Malina of Chico, CA; a granddaughter, Lisa Malina of Chico, CA; nephews, Robert Dobecka Jr. and wife Peggy and David Dobecka and wife Stacy; nieces, Carol Toliver and husband William, Delores "Dee Dee" Wolf and husband Bill, and Shirley Dobecka; many great and great-great nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Whitney Dobecka, Christian Romero, Christi Sparkman, Troy Dobecka, Kevin Dobecka and Alexandria Wolf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund.
