Emory J. Isham

January 28, 1927 — October 17, 2015

Emory J. Isham, age 88, of Waco, formerly of West, passed away early Saturday morning, October 17, 2015 at Providence Health Center in Waco. Memorial graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Bold Springs Cemetery near West, with Rev. David Rodgers and Rev. Charles Packard officiating. Emory was born January 28, 1927 in Limestone County, the son of Newt and Lela (Phillips) Isham. He attended the old Dale school and was a 1939 graduate of Prairie Hill High School. Emory served his country in the United States Army during World War II with the 1st Cavalry Division. On February 4, 1980 he was united in marriage to Scottie Vardiman in Haltom City. Emory worked as a nursing assistant at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Waco for 34 years until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church of Woodway. He was a Mason. Emory enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. He especially loved spending time with his family. Emory is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Weldon Isham, C.N. Isham and Joe Isham; and a step-son, Kenneth Luckey Harris. Survivors include his beloved wife of 35 years, Scottie L. Isham of Waco; two sons, Jim Isham and wife Kathy of Lorena and Terry Isham of Waco; two step-daughters, Anne Harris of Quinlan and Carmen Burkhart and husband Brian of Holland; a step daughter-in-law, Holly Harris of West; a sister, Ima M. Dabney; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; his cat, Trooper; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Central Presbyterian Church. Honorary pallbearers are Bruce Bowman, Jerry Schaffer, Jim Wright, Earl Anderson, Phill Thornton, David Ross and Steve Gilmore.
