Emil Nors, age 84, of West, passed away late Tuesday evening, September 30, 2008 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 2:00 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Anthony Odiong as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Nors was born October 3, 1923 near West, the son of Henry and Antonia (Hejl) Nors, Sr. He attended the Alligator School near West. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. On October 23, 1945 he was united in marriage to Ruth Jane Dudik in Penelope. She preceded him in death on January 2, 1986. Emil was a farmer and a meat processor for several area stores including Nemecek Brothers Meat Market in West for almost 40 years before retiring in 1997. He then continued to operate the Nors Saw Shop. Emil was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the K.J.T. Society No. 31 and the American Legion Post No. 478. Emil enjoyed hunting, fishing, taxidermy, listening to Czech music, and attending weekly auctions at the West Auction Barn. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Emil is also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Josephine Nors, Mary Soukup and Rose Kolar; and two brothers, Joe Nors and Henry Nors, Jr. Survivors include three sons, Bennie L. Nors and Bernie Nors and wife Lori, all of West, and Richard J. Nors of Bandera; two daughters, Maggie Grmela and husband Ernest of West and Barbara Benton and husband Don of Conroe; two brothers, Bill Nors and wife Tillie of Northcrest and Ernest Nors and wife JoAnn of West; four sisters, Henrietta Chudej, Marcella Kaska and husband Ted, and Evelyn Pratka and husband Dan, all of West, and Lillian Kissinger and husband Harold of Northcrest; nine grandchildren, Torie Banik and husband Darrin, Andy Grmela and wife Sandra, Matthew, Whitney, and Natalie Nors, Reece, Megan, and Jessica Nors, and Brandon Dulock and wife Jennifer; five great grandchildren, Grace Banik, Ashley and A.J. Grmela, and Dylan and Hailey Dulock; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Matthew Nors, Brandon Dulock, Andrew Grmela, Reece Nors, Gary Nors, Eugene Dudik, Harry Dudik, Ronnie Dudik, and Darrin Banik. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Texas Home Health and Hospice or the Infant Jesus of Prague Memorial Garden at St. Mary's Church in West.
