Elsie E. Janek, age 102, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, January 10, 2010 at West Rest Haven in West. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the West Brethren Church, with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at West Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Janek was born October 15, 1907 in Hill County near Mt. Calm, the daughter of Frank M. and Emilie (Fabian) Rypel. She attended Griffin School. On November 4, 1929 she was united in marriage to Frank E. Janek in West. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1938. Elsie was a homemaker and also worked for H. L. Green Department Store in Dallas, Picadilly Cafeteria in Waco and West Community Hospital. Elsie was a lifetime member of the West Brethren Church where she was active in the Christian Sisters. She was also a volunteer cook for the West Senior Center and a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge. Elsie enjoyed quilting, yard work, gardening, canning and baking kolaches. Her parents; two sisters, Lillian Pinter and Marie Janek; and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Janek also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Lloyd F. Janek and wife Mary C. of Dallas and Roy E. Janek of West; six grandchildren, Kenneth Janek and wife JoDee, Gary Janek, Paul Janek and wife Louiese, Roy Lee Janek, Melissa Jennings and husband James, and Ron Janek and fianc Peggy Mercer; eight great-grandchildren, Rachelle, Tina, Joshua, Rachael, Janay, Chris, Andrea, and Kathryn; seven great great grandchildren, Preston, Christen, Joshua Jr., Jacob, Madison, Dylan, and Devin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Kenneth Janek, Gary Janek, Paul Janek, Roy Lee Janek, Ron Janek, and Tony Mekhjian. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Brethren Church, West Volunteer Ambulance Association, or West Brethren Cemetery.
