Eloise "Scotty" Bradsby, 86, of Waco, formerly of West, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 after a short illness. Blessed to be delivered into the world by her grandfather, Dr. B.E. Escue, Eloise (Scotty) Bradsby was born November 19, 1929 in Temple, Texas. The only child of James Baker Escue and Bula Clark Escue, she began school in Dallas, Texas and moved to Abilene, Texas at age eight. Scotty graduated from Abilene High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She later attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, and on New Years Day, 1950, she married Barney Eugene Bradsby. Scotty and Barney were married for 66 years, and, barring a short time in Nebraska, they were active members of the Waco and West communities. She was strong, intelligent, and decisive, but also funny and playful. She kept a beautiful house, but more importantly, she kept an open and welcoming home, making all who entered feel comfortable. Community service was in her blood, and she couldnt help but be elected to office in many organizations and clubs. Family and friendship sustained her, and she was fiercely loyal to all she loved. Scotty was skillful (and highly competitive) at cards and games, and she followed college sports with great passion and a good dose of arm chair coaching. Her loyalty to Baylor Universitys Lady Bears was legendary; one could expect all phone calls to go unanswered when the Lady Bears took to the basketball court as it was understood that Scotty was watching the game, either courtside or at home. Scotty was a loving mother to daughters Kim and Lisa, and sons Mike and David. Anyone viewing family photos would easily see the fullness of life in the Bradsby household and the familys travels. Scotty somehow found more than 24 hours in a day while she cared for four children, managed a busy household, kept a full social calendar, and volunteered for and served in many community organizations. Scottys community contributions could fill a whole newspaper. She was the president of four PTAs, and served as an officer of several boards, including those of the YWCA, Camp Fire, ALIVE, the Salvation Army, and the Federated Womens Club. She was active in the Junior Shakespeare Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the McLennan County Historical Society, and the Peter Folger chapter of the Colonial Dames, and she was a long time precinct chair for the Republican Party in Ross. Scotty served God and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of West. Scotty loved arts and crafts and had a natural talent for flower arranging and for entertaining; she was truly a hostess extraordinaire. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, a talented card player, and a pretty mean bowler. She valued friendship and enjoyed traveling. Her favorite hobby, though, was spending time with her adored grandchildren. She was always up for playing with children, listening to their stories, and providing admiring critiques of their performances. Scotty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Barney, and son Michael. She is survived by: daughter and son-in-law Kimarra and Brad Garnett; son and daughter-in-law David and Colette Bradsby; daughter Lisa Storts; grandchildren Charlotte Bradsby, Justin Graham and wife Suzanne, Clare Riecke and husband Tre, Cory Storts, Sarah Mengon, Jeannine Bradsby, Josie Bradsby, and Elyza Bradsby; and great grandchildren Tanner and Autumn Reicke, Willow Mengon, Tatum Lenox and one more on the way. Funeral services for Scotty will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at First Baptist Church of West, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are David Bradsby, Jerry Arthur, Brad Garnett, Cory Storts, Justin Graham, Tre Riecke, Dylan Lenox and Bacil Tanner.
