Ellen G. Schroeder, age 95, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mrs. Schroeder will lie-in-state from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Schroeder was born July 25, 1916 in Tours, the daughter of Adolph and Mary (Debbendener) Grellhesl. She was raised in the Leroy and Tours area where she attended school. Ellen married Rudolph Sulak and he preceded her in death in December of 1937. She then married John F. Schroeder and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1998. Ellen was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She had lived near the Abbott area till 1990. She loved canning and gardening. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and the K.J.T. in Abbott. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Adolph "Bud" Grellhesl, Jr., Joe Grellhesl, and Anton Grellhesl; and three sisters, Josephine Kucera, Maggie Hennig, and Mary Sulak. Survivors are many nieces and nephews, including Jerry Kucera, Sr. and wife Dorothy and Joe A. Grellhesl all of West, Clara Sparks and husband Billy of Gholson, and Eugene Sulak of Waco; and many great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Steven Kucera, Nick Kucera, Matt Ferguson, Justin Cvikel, Billy Sparks, and Gregory Vybiral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Cemetery Association.
