Elfie Srubar

Elfie Srubar, age 86, of Abbott, passed away early Sunday morning, December 4, 2005 at Lakeshore Village in Waco. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the West Brethren Church with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Srubar was born September 16, 1919 in Abbott, the daughter of Frank and Albina (Hejl) Mikeska. She attended Treadwell and Abbott schools where she participated on the basketball teams and graduated from Abbott High School in 1938. Elfie was united in marriage to Albert E. Srubar on April 12, 1948 in Abbott. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1983. She was a homemaker and a seamstress, working for Rose Marie Manufacturing in Hillsboro for over 15 years before retiring in 1983. Elfie was a member of the West Brethren Church, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No 54, and R.V.O.S. Lodge No 78. She was a kind and caring person and will be dearly missed by her children and granddaughters. Elfie enjoyed cooking, sewing, and especially enjoyed the beauty of nature. Her parents; two brothers, Eddie Mikeska and Robert Mikeska; and three sisters, Marian Adamek, Geraldine Brezina, and Elsie Kucera; also preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Albert Srubar Jr. of West; four daughters, Barbara Olsovsky and her husband Albert of West, Helen Kubala and her husband Edward, Irene Srubar, and Anna Srubar, all of Abbott; two granddaughters, Amanda Kubala and Wendy Kubala, both of Abbott; a brother, George Mikeska and his wife Frankye Mae of Abbott; two sisters, Ruby Kucera of Ingleside and Bessie Surovik and her husband Daniel of Brenham; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Srubar of West; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers will be Patrick Srubar, Albin Kucera, Frank Kucera, Jerry Brezina, Tommy Surovik and Jim Kucera. Memorials may be made to the West Brethren Church.
