Eileen Mrkos

October 25, 1921 — March 8, 2016

Eileen Tlustos Mrkos, age 94, of West, passed away late Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2016 at West Rest Haven in West. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the West Brethren Church with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at West Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Eileen was born October 25, 1921 near Ross the daughter of Frank and Fannie (Kulik) Tlustos. She attended schools in Ross and was a graduate of West High School. On September 8, 1980 she was united in marriage to Willie T. "Bill" Mrkos in Caldwell. Bill preceded her in death on December 28, 1985. Eileen was the youngest of three children. She grew up on the family farm and tended chickens, turkeys, and performed other chores as needed. She was an outstanding seamstress and enjoyed gardening and playing dominos. She learned the game of basketball while attending Ross School and became one of the best players in the State of Texas while attending West High School. Eileen worked for many years in West at the Vrana's Circleburger Drive Inn. She was a faithful member of the West Brethren Church. She was also a member of the SPJST Lodge #6 in Cottonwood. Eileen is also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Vlasta Tlustos Mrkos; and a brother, Bob Tlustos. Survivors include nephews, Bobby Tlustos Sr. and wife Mary Lou of Elm Mott and Wayne "Tosty" Tlustos and his wife Sally of Corsicana; a sister-in-law, Esther Tlustos of West; great nieces and nephews, Sonny Tlustos and wife Kay, Missie Tlustos-Pustejovsky and husband Doug, Lacey Tlustos Ogburn and husband Russell and Lindsey Tlustos Boeller and husband Joey; great great nieces and nephews, Keaton, Paxton, Grayson, Addison, Lucille, Lillian and Joseph; and many other relatives and friends, including her special sister in Christ, Erline Husak. Pallbearers are Sonny Tlustos, Bobby Tlustos Sr., Tosty Tlustos, Doug Pustejovsky, Russell Ogburn and Joey Boeller. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Brethren Church. The family wishes to thank Dr. Eric Chudej and the staff of West Rest Haven for their care and compassion.
