Edwina Deiterman, age 53, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, August 12, 2007 at her residence. A rosary will be recited 8:00 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Edwina was born on December 11, 1953 in Waco, the daughter of Edwin and Pauline "Polly" (Kucera) Volcik. She attended schools in West and graduated from West High School in 1972. On August 4, 1973 she was united in marriage to Daniel Deiterman in West. Edwina worked as a staff assistant for West Community Hospital for 25 years and Texas State Technical College for 8 years. She loved the outdoors, doing yard work, and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughter, Madison, who was the love of her life. Edwina was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, where she taught C.C.E. for many years and was the coordinator for the last eight years. She played a vital role in the drive through Stations of the Cross during the Easter season. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 and St. Anne's Altar Society. She is preceded in death by her father, an infant son, and two infant sisters. Survivors include her beloved husband of 34 years, Daniel Deiterman of West; a son, Nicholas Deiterman of West; her mother, Polly Volcik of West; a brother, Harry Volcik and wife Rose of Lacy-Lakeview; three sisters, Jeanette Holecek and husband James and Loretta "Poopsie" Volcik, all of West, and Vicki Janek and husband Erwin of San Marcos; a granddaughter, Madison L. Deiterman of Waco; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Active pallbearers will be John Holecek, Jason Holecek, Travis Volcik, Alan Volcik, Matthew Deiterman, Kevin Maler, and Todd Freeman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Debbie Uptmore Henry, Charlotte Klaus, Yvonne Reddell, Jolynn Kasik, Pauline Stearnes, Amanda Janek, Janet Chudej, Bobbie Luco, and Iris Cunningham. Memorials may be made to the Catholic Continuing Education Program (C.C.E.) at the Assumption Church.
