Edwin "Ed" Nesrsta, age 77, of Abbott, passed away Sunday evening, June 25, 2006 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A family visitation will begin 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, followed by a rosary which will be recited 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, by Rev. Stephen Nesrsta. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Bishop Gregory Aymond, Rev. Stephen Nesrsta, and Msgr. Frank Miller con-celebrating, assisted by Deacon John Petter. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Fatima Cemetery, conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 4819. Mr. Nesrsta was born on October 20, 1928 in Ross, the son of Adolph A. and Josephine (Sulc) Nesrsta. He attended schools in Ross and Abbott before entering the United States Air Force in 1946. He served during the Korean Conflict before being discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1956. On November 9, 1954 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Gerik in West. They settled in the Abbott area to start their family. Ed was a bookkeeper for the Texaco Distributorship for 16 years. He also worked for the City Service Station and Dameron's in West before retiring in 1985. He then worked for Smith Security as a security guard. Ed was a faithful member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. He enjoyed drinking coffee with friends, loved his cars, working in his yard, and helping his wife babysit. He thought so much of all the children in their care. Ed's family was the most important to him, he especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Doris Nesrsta of Abbott; three sons, Larry Nesrsta and wife Joyce and Edward Nesrsta, all of Hewitt, and Rev. Stephen Nesrsta of Somerville; one daughter, Evelyn Petter and husband Daniel of West; daughter-in-law, Julie Nesrsta of Hewitt; one brother, George Nesrsta of Abbott; eight grandchildren, Amy and Ben Conditt of Longview, Nicole Nesrsta of Destin, FL, Michelle deAlba of The Woodlands, Kory Martin and wife Cherish of Hewitt, Kyle Nesrsta and Jillian Nesrsta of Hewitt, Sarah Petter, Brian Petter and Elizabeth Petter, all of West; four great-grandchildren, Codie Conditt, Alora and Chase Martin and Abigail deAlba; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers will be Calvin Gerik, Mark Gerik, Richard Gerik, David Gerik, Chris Gerik, Kory Martin, Tom Marek and Joe Sinkule, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the children they took care of over the years. Memorials may be made to the Czech Seminarian Fund, Immaculate Heart of Mary Youth Group, St. Mary's Parish Center or St. Jerome's Life Teen Youth Group.
