Edwin Anton Hanzlicek

Edwin Anton Hanzlicek, age 80, of Penelope, passed away late Tuesday morning, March 28, 2017 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Edwin was born August 2, 1936 in West, the son of John and Hattie (Neckar) Hanzlicek. He attended school in Penelope. Edwin served his country with the United States Army from 1959 to 1965. He was a farmer for all his life. Edwin was also a brick mason and rancher. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Edwin was also a member of the KJT Society in Penelope. He enjoyed gardening, working outside, building things out of Metal and wood, tending to his cattle and taking care of the flowers around the yard. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Edwin is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Johnny, George, Herman and Benny Hanzlicek; and sisters, Mary Johnson and Helen Cepak. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Grmela and husband Andy of West; grandchildren, Ashley, A.J., Blake and Kyleigh; sisters, Estelle Marek and Hattie Kadlubar; a brother, Leo Hanzlicek; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Johnny Hanzlicek Jr., Ray Parma, Danny Kadlubar, Bernie Kadlubar, David Monthey and Jack Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers are Ashley Grmela, A.J. Grmela, Blake Grmela and Kyleigh Simmons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund or St. Mary's Child Development Program.
