Edward R. Archer, age 85, of West, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 24, 2015 at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Janice Kaluza, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Edward was born March 4, 1930 in West, the son of Jack Bennett and Mamie (Nemecek) Archer. He attended school at St. Mary's and was a 1947 graduate of West High School. Edward went on to receive his Associates Degree in Business from Victoria Junior College and his Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University. On August 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Anna Myrl McMorrough in West. He was a veteran with the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Edward was owner and operator of E R Archer Texaco and City Service Station for over 23 years until his retirement in 1984. He then spent time renovating homes around West for rental property. Edward was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, where he also served as usher. He was a 30 year member of West Volunteer Fire Department including serving as Chief. Edward was also a member of West Kiwanis Club, West Fair and Rodeo Association, and West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. He also served on the West ISD Board of Trustees for 12 years, serving as Vice President. Edward loved traveling, renovating homes, and especially spending time with family. Edward is preceded in death by his parents; son, Patrick J. Archer; daughter, Christina "Chris" Anne Archer; and a sister, Jackie Batte. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Anna Archer of West; brother, Clifford Archer and wife Bonnie; sisters, Barbara Talley and husband Clarence and Alexandria Bailey and husband Calvin; grandchildren, Brandon A. Whitman and Krystal Archer-Goodman and husband Jeremy; great grandchildren, Jacob, Kate and Makenzie; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Marty Marak, Brian McMorrough, Calvin Bailey, Gary Culverhouse, Mike Archer, Jack Archer, Jerry McMorrough, and Gerald Glatter. Honorary pallbearers the West Fire Department, Jeremy Goodman, Jacob Goodman and Brandon Whitman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Fire Department.
