Edward "Eddy" Phillips, age 81, of Elm Mott, passed away late Tuesday afternoon, March 12, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Neely Reynolds officiating. Military, Confederate and Masonic honors will follow at White Rock Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Phillips was born October 24, 1931 in Gladewater, the son of William and Minnie (Clements) Phillips. He graduated from Gladewater High School in 1951. He also served his country with the National Guard. On August 30, 1951 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Spradlin, the mother of his two daughters. On December 26, 1969 he was united in marriage to Shirley Thomas. Eddy worked as a salesman and coal mine engineer consultant for Darr Equipment Company in Waco for 45 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Waco, American Legion Post #478 in West, Sons of the Republic of Texas, and Sons of the Confederacy. He enjoyed doing re-enactments of the Civil War and was a connonere. Eddy also served on the Board of Directors for the Rosemound Cemetery and Union Grove Cemetery in Gladewater. He was currently on the Board of Directors of White Rock Cemetery. Eddy enjoyed hunting, camping, genealogy, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren and family, especially his twin brother. Eddy is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Hershel Phillips; and a sister, Murle Rhodes. Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Shirley Phillips of Elm Mott; four daughters, Sharon Buehrle and husband Mike of Robinson, Vicki Phillips of Temple, Dana Gaylor Farmer and husband Boyd of Elm Mott and Lana Bailey and husband Mike of Canyon Lake; a brother, William "Bill" Phillips and wife Billie Claire; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Joshua McAninch, Christopher Holcomb, Aaron Chisenhall, Eric Calhoun, Gary Moore and Steve Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers are the Sons of the Confederate. Memorials may be made to the Elm Mott United Methodist Church or charity of your choice.
