Edward A. Hykel, age 63, of Groesbeck, passed away early Thursday morning, November 17, 2005 in Waco. A rosary will be recited 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Patrick Ebner as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott, conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Mr. Hykel was born on November 25, 1941 in McLennan County, Texas, and the son of L. A. and the late Estelle (Hanak) Hykel. He attended school in Bynum and graduated from Abbott High School. He also attended McLennan Community College and Hill Junior College. In serving his country, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Lexington Aircraft Carrier for almost four years. Upon his return from the Navy he married the love of his life Jeanette Irene Steele on October 17, 1964 in Abbott. He worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for over fifteen years in the Hillsboro and Temple areas until he retired on May 1, 1999. Edward enjoyed life and loved riding tractors and 4-wheelers, fishing, boating, hunting, and playing dominoes. He enjoyed spending time with his family and doing things with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 1820 of Temple. Survivors include his beloved wife of 41 years, Jeanette Hykel of Groesbeck; one son, Stephen Hykel and family of Yancy; three daughters, Pamlia Wareham of Round Rock, Sheri Weber and husband Jim of Robinson and Alison Turner and husband Roger and family of North Richland Hills; father, L. A. Hykel of West; one brother, Richard Hykel of Troy; two sisters, Mary Degner of Waco and Jeanette Vrana of China Springs; three grandchildren, Kayla Hykel, Ashtin Harper, Justin Wareham; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers will be Marvin Matus, Joshua Hykel, Darren Degner, Otto Hanak III, Chip Steele and William Steele. Memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Building Fund, or Hillcrest Community Hospice.
