Eddie Schuetz

September 30, 1925 — April 23, 2021

Eddie M. Schuetz, age 95, of West, passed away early Friday afternoon, April 23, 2021 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Eddie was born September 30, 1925 in Tours, the son of August and Lizzie (Kruse) Schuetz. He attended the old Alligator School near West, Treadwell School in Aquilla and St. Mary's Catholic School in West. On January 3, 1949 he was united in marriage to Velma Janak in West. Velma preceded him in death on August 22, 2017. Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819, American Legion Post #478, Central Texas Bass Club, the 50-50 Club, and the Over 50 Dance Club. Eddie was a supervisor and final finisher for Fleetwood Mobile Homes for over 20 years. He also owned Eddie's Garage in Abbott, farmed and worked for Frank Hlavaty Automotive Shop. He enjoyed fishing, building bird houses, being outdoors, gardening and taking care of his dog, Oscar. Eddie is also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Annie Kubacak and Marie White; a brother, John Schuetz; a nephew, Larry Joe Kubacak; and a niece, Nona Jean Gerik. Survivors include a niece, Earline Rochester and husband Ray of West; several great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Chris Gerik, David Gerik, Bryan Anderson and Rudy Rizo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
