Eddie Chudej

Eddie Chudej, age 73, of West, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at his residence in West. A memorial rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. LIVE STREAM of the service will be provided. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Eddie was born November 2, 1947 in Waco, the son of Edwin and Evelyn (Marcon) Chudej. He was a 1966 graduate of West High School. Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Navy stationed in San Diego, California. He started his postal career as a city carrier for the West Post Office. Eddie continued by serving as a Postmaster for Ross Post Office, Elm Mott Post Office, Frost Post Office and Blooming Grove Post Office for a total of 30 years until his retirement in 2004. Prior to that he worked at First National Bank in Waco. Eddie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was also a member of the KJT Society #31 in West, 3rd & 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in West, SPJST Lodge #6 Cottonwood, and the United Postmasters Association. Eddie was a car enthusiast and he attended many car shows throughout the state, sporting events, and football games. He loved to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren. Eddie is preceded in death by his father; his brother, Richard Chudej; and grandson, Turner Uptmor. Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Chudej; his children, Kim Wernet and husband Adrian, Scott Chudej and girlfriend, Julie Nors Dehay, and Eric Chudej and wife Kristi, all of West; his sister, Evelyn Karcher and husband David of Allen; his grandchildren, Tanner Uptmor, Tate Uptmor, Emerson Uptmor, Kyle Chudej, and Chloe Chudej; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Honorary urn bearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul in West and West Senior Center.
