Edward Adolph "Ed" Havel, age 70, of West, left this earthly body to gain eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Thursday morning, August 17, 2023 at his residence. He was diagnosed with stage 4 liver and pancreatic cancer on July 22, 2023, however, neither illness nor death has victory over a believer.
Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. John Boiko officiating.
Ed was born August 25, 1952 in Waco, the son of Adolph and Dorothy (Deiterman) Havel. He was a 1971 graduate of West High School. On February 14, 1975 he was united in marriage to Linda Ward in West. Ed was employed in his early years at Lichnovsky Grocery in West. His love for cars led him to do paint and body work at Frank Weaver Pontiac in Waco where he retired after 25 years of service. He continued doing that line of work for Polansky's Body Shop and Alvin's Body Shop, both in West. Most remember his antique shop in West with the Pink Panther adorning the door as people entered. Some came for the latest treasure, while others came to shoot the breeze and have a cup of coffee with their beloved friend, Ed. For the last 30 years of his life he enjoyed antiquing and collecting many different things, whatever it may be, cars or what not's. Ed loved gardening, tending to his doves and chickens, and fishing at Lake Park in West.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Michael "Jimmy" Havel.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Linda Havel of West; two children, Patrick Havel and wife Crystal and April Eppler and husband Dwight; his grandchildren, Edward Burns, Mallory Sinkule, and Aiden Howard; a sister, Carol Hernandez and husband Reuban; a sister-in-law; Christie Kasik and husband Ronnie; a brother-in-law, John Ward and wife Tensy; his dog, Buffy; his cat, Miss Kitty; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Hospice or West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
