Durwood Edgar Young, age 80, of West, passed away early Friday morning, May 27, 2011 at a Fort Worth hospital. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Young was born February 27, 1931 in Penelope, the son of Med and Ludie (Willis) Young. He attended schools in Penelope and Abbott. On December 30, 1952 he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Dvorak in West. Edgar served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked in maintenance at General Tire for over 32 years until his retirement and also worked as a farmer and rancher for many years. Edgar and his wife have been cleaning the Tours Hall for over 27 years for many activities at the hall throughout the year. He was a member St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Edgar also served as an Associate Director of Westfest for several years, was a member of the West Fair and Rodeo Association, the West Longhorn Club, where he served as a Past President, the Rubber Workers Union Local #312, the American Legion Post No. 121, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter TX-3 of Waco, a member of SPJST Lodge No. 54 of West, and RVOS Lodge No. 46. Mr. Young loved working with his tractor and cows, horseback riding, the Central Texas Horse Shows, fishing and working at the West Fair and Rodeo. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Jessie Ince; sister, Dorothy Young, sister-in-law, Evelyn Kolar; and brother-in-law, Floyd Grier. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Mary Alice Young; two daughters, Marlene Price and husband Andy, and Diane Ince, all of West; a sister, Doris Grier of Lacy Lakeview; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Leona Gerik of Mart, Raymond Kolar of West, John and Patsy Dvorak of Elm Mott, and Georgie Hutchison and Fred Willis of Riesel; one grandson, Shelby Ince; three step-grandchildren, Shannon Price, Andy Price Jr. and wife Krissy, and Kenny Price; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund or to West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
