Dr. William "Bill" Manax, M.D.

Dr. William G. "Bill" Manax, M.D., age 87, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, December 3, 2022 at his residence.


Dr. Bill's wishes were to be taken back to his hometown in London, Ontario, Canada and he will be buried at Woodland Cemetery there. He will lie-in-state Wednesday, December 7, 2022 form 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Aderhold Funeral Home in West.


Dr. Bill was born June 13, 1935 in London, Ontario, the son of John and Ettie (Chandler) Manax. He was a graduate of London South Collegiate Institute in London, Ontario, Canada with high honors. Dr. Bill went on to study Pre-Med at the University of Weston Ontario from 1953 to 1955. He continued his studies at the University graduating in 1959 with a Doctor of Medicine Degree. Dr. Bill went on to the University of Minnesota and qualified for a Ph.D. in surgery. He completed his internship at the Victoria Hospital in 1960 in London, Ontario. Dr. Bill was an instructor in Anatomy at the University of Toronto from 1960 to 1961. He was the first researcher in the world to successfully preserve kidneys for 24 hours using a combination of hyperthermia and hyperbaric oxygen, and have the organs survive after all transportation. Dr. Bill was very proud of serving his country with his medical knowledge in the Canadian and United States Army Air Force. He practiced medicine and surgery in several areas including, Toronto and Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. He came to the United States in 1962, practicing medicine in Augusta, GA, Minneapolis, MN, Chicago, IL, and Denver City, and Waco, both in Texas, and was elected with honors by the International College of Surgeons in Italy in 1981. He was very devoted and loved the West area where he opened the Oak Street Medical Center and was a surgeon for the West Community Hospital for many years. On March 4, 1995, he was united in marriage to Glenda "Sue" Worley in Las Vegas, NV. Glenda preceded him in death on May 6, 2010.  Dr. Bill was a member of  the American Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed traveling, seeing different parts of the world, collecting fine art, reading, and visiting with friends.


Dr. Bill is also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Manax Sr; and his sisters, Athena Young and Barbara Witburn.


Survivors include his loving caregiver, April Johnson of West; two daughters, Ruth Manax Miller and husband Jeff of Phoenix, AZ and Dr. Victoria Manax Rutson and her husband David of Dallas; grandchildren, Sarah Miller, and Alexander Rutson; his brother, Dr. Stan Manax; his sister, Helen Vickers; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many other relatives and friends, including Denice Kubacak.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance

Association.


The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice Care and Dr. George N. Smith D. O. and staff for their excellent care.
