Douglas Ray Scott, age 47, of Valley Mills, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with Rev. Pat Cummings officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery near Aquilla. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Douglas was born on April 13, 1963 at Schilling Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas, the son of Jerell and Paulette (Terry) Scott. He graduated from Midway High School in 1981 and attended Tarleton State University. While in high school, he was an active member of the FFA and won 1st place in poultry and 3rd place in the swine division at the Houston Livestock Show. Douglas worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years as a mail carrier and clerk, serving as a Union Reprehensive until his retirement last month. His passion was bull riding, which is reflected in his collection of belt buckles that he won while riding bulls throughout Texas and neighboring states. He loved the outdoors, was an avid deer hunter and always had several dogs. He also enjoyed barbequing with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Terry and Mr. and Mrs. Wade Scott. Survivors include his wife, Kandi Scott of Valley Mills; his parents, Jerell and Paulette Scott of China Spring; a son, Wade Scott of Lubbock; a daughter, Rachel Scott of Lorena; a step-son, Chris Towner of Waco; a step-daughter, Ashley Hunter and husband Rob of Valley Mills; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Cal Deal, Curtis Hyde, Scott Kapczynski, Stephen Holecek, David Scott, Jeff Terry, Gary McCartney, and Travis Scott. Honorary pallbearers are teh U.S. Postal Service Employees of Waco, Jason McCartney, Larry McCartney, Tim Scott, and Matt McGee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
