Doug W. Carter, age 94, of West, passed away Thursday morning, August 17, 2017 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Darrell Kostiha as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Doug was born November 16, 1922 in Abbott, the son of Ira and Burnice (King) Carter. He attended Abbott School and was a graduate of West High School in 1939 before attending Trinity University on a band scholarship. Doug served his country with the United States Coast Guard in the Philippines during World War II. Upon his return to the states, he was united in marriage to Clara Jerabek on April 16, 1947 in West. Doug was a local West businessman working at several places in West prior to becoming the warehouse manager for Joe L. Ward in Waco until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West. Doug was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819, American Legion Post #478 and was very proud to be a long standing member of the West Volunteer Fire Department. Doug enjoyed all sports, especially baseball and football. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren's activities. Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years, Clara Carter of West; children, Susan Jones and husband Lloyd of Georgetown, Patti George and husband Art of Granbury, Mike Carter and wife Jennifer of Austin and Jan Laine and husband Mike of College Station; grandchildren, Bryan Jones and wife Amanda, Jeff Jones, Gregory George, Phillip George, Abigail Carter, Sara Sears and husband Branden, Holly Carroll and husband Jake and Marshall Laine; great grandchildren, Aspen, Beau and Brody; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Bryan Jones, Jeff Jones, Gregory George, Phillip George and Marshall Laine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of your choice.
