Doug Snokhous, age 52, of Leroy, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, June 23, 2009 at his residence. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery near Tours. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Doug was born January 1, 1957 in Waco, the son of August and Rita (Vrba) Snokhous. He attended schools in Tours and West before graduating from West High School in 1975. Doug worked for West Chemical and Fertilizer and Hand Plumbing, before starting his own business; Snokhous Plumbing in 1997. He enjoyed buying scratch-offs and gambling in Shreveport and Oklahoma. He also loved his job and was a very dedicated and hard worker. Doug dearly loved helping the elderly. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Ruby. Doug was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church, Catholic Life Association, and K.J.T. Society #60 in Tours. His father, August Snokhous preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter, Valerie Snokhous of West; his mother, Rita Snokhous of Leroy; a brother, David Snokhous and wife Dana of Round Rock; a sister, Beverly Polansky and husband Anton of West; two grandchildren, Zoe and Zane; three nieces, Michelle Sing and husband Tommy, Sherry Janner and husband Matt, and Krystalle Herring; two nephews, Darik Snokhous and Tripp Herring; one great-nephew, Braden; and many other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Larry Hykel, Larry Nemec, Pete Pizarro, Barry Hand, Joey Dulock, and Thom Brown. Honorary pallbearers are Arnold "Red" Kasberg Jr., Billy Bettge Sr., Gary Wines, Darik Snokhous, Tripp Herring, and Braden Sing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an education fund for his grandchildren Zoe and Zane.
