Doug Popp

Douglas Ben "Doug" Popp, age 78, of Willis, passed away Tuesday evening, January 4, 2022 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Terry McElrath officiating. Burial will follow at Closner Cemetery near West. Doug was born February 19, 1943 in El Campo, the son of Benjamin and Ruby Mae (Groppe) Popp. He was a 1961 graduate of Jesse H. Jones High School in Houston. Doug was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He owned and operated The Kolache Shoppe near Houston for many years. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and, in his younger years, spending time at the Groppe family farm near West. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Doug is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Doyle Popp. Survivors include his children, Douglas Adam Popp and wife Robin of Watertown, SD, Jennifer Gordon and husband Larry of Houston, and Katherine Nowak and husband Kevin of Houston; grandchildren, Dakota Turrentine and wife Shelby, Mihka Ponce and husband Joseph, Garrett Popp, Alex French, Jolly Nowak, Catcher Nowak, and Poppy Mae Nowak; a great grandson, Tobias Turrentine; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Parker Fanning, Alex French, Larry Gordon, Henry Groppe III, Kevin Nowak, Joseph Ponce, Garrett Popp, Dakota Turrentine, and John Tyler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Closner Cemetery Association.
