Dorothy Vrba Uptmor, age 76, of Tours, passed away Wednesday morning, November 23, 2022 in West.
A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. Walter Dhanwar as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery.
Dorothy was born June 8, 1946 in Waco, the daughter of the late August and Elsie (Novak) Vrba. She attended school in Axtell and was a 1964 graduate of Axtell High School. On November 19, 1966 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Uptmor in Tours. Dorothy was a faithful member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the church Parish Council. She was also a member of the RVOS Lodge #46 in Cottonwood for over 20 years, where she currently served as president. Dorothy worked in the medical records department for Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. She also worked for several other area businesses including West Community Hospital, American Amicable in Waco and the West News, where she wrote the Tri-City News for Leroy, Tours and Gerald for a number of years. Dorothy enjoyed attending and working at the annual Westfest and BBQ Cook-off's, playing the slot machines in Louisiana, shopping for antiques, painting, working crossword puzzles, crocheting, sewing, going on cruises, traveling to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo and dancing, especially leading wedding marches with her forever dance partner, Kenneth. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren with candy. She was known as being social and could not resist visiting with everyone she encountered.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 56 years, Kenneth Uptmor of West; her daughters, Kathleen Uptmor and Michael Southern of Leander, Lisa Uptmor of West, Erica Gerig and husband Jedd of Bartlett, and Kristen VanCleave and husband Charles of Waco; her grandchildren, Morgan Price and husband Connor, Ashlyn Gerig, Emily VanCleave, Laynee Gerig, and Preston Gerig; her great grandsons, Reed and Collin; a brother, Clyde Vrba and wife Debbie; a sister, Rose Svrcek and husband Tommy; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are Brian Enlow, Brian Vrba, Matthew Stem, Jedd Gerig, Charles VanCleave, and Connor Price. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Hoelscher, Lynnwood Vrba, Chris Uptmore, and past and present members of the Waco Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin's Catholic Church, St. Martin's Cemetery or West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
