Dorothy Sulak

Dorothy (Klaus) Sulak, age 82, of West, passed away Wednesday morning, September 25, 2024 at her residence.


A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrants, assisted by Deacon Ronnie Sykora. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.


Dorothy was born October 9, 1941 in Abbott, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Smajstrla) Klaus. She attended schools in West and was a 1960 graduate of West High School. On May 20, 1961 she was united in marriage to Norman Sulak in West. Norman preceded her in death on August 6, 2012. Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of Catholic Life, Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, SPJST Lodge #54 and the K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society #11, all in West. Dorothy worked as a secretary for West Fertilizer Plant for 42 years until the tragic West explosion in 2013. She enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, camping at Whitney, dancing, listening to Czech music, and leading wedding marches. She cherished time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Dorothy is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Charlotte Klaus.


Survivors include her children, David Sulak, Michael Sulak, and Denise Sulak, all of West; her grandchildren, Sharla Salazar and husband Abel, Tanner Sulak, Morgan Gatewood and husband Robert, Cody Castro and Rebecca Reynolds, and Brittany Crundwell and husband Lex; her great grandchildren, Gabbie Salazar, Gracie Salazar, Lucca Castro, Kynlee Dilks, and Mason Crundwell; her sisters, Willie Mae Rydel and Cindi Sulak; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Pallbearers are Cody Castro, Lex Crundwell, Anthony Starkey, Duane Sulak, Rick Sulak, Kyle Klaus, and Chris Klaus.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association.
